The article is
about obesity and what the reasons causing obesity in the United States are. The
writer argues that instead of blaming people for being overweight, health
officials have turned their attention to what has been termed our “obesogenic” environment,
a new set of conditions that has made it much easier in the last few decades
for people to gain weight.
There are some
reasons for the obesity. Firstly, calorie-dense foods are far more readily
available ever than before. Food in the US is cheap and plentiful thanks to
widespread affluence and agricultural subsidies. Since people are so busy, they
eat fast-food to gain time and since both parents work, there is no cook at
home and family members goes on food outside the home which much of them
high-fat. Second reason is gradual increasing in portion sizes. While the original
1960s Mc Donald’s meal contained about 590 calories, now it contains 1550 calories.
That’s about three quarters of the recommended daily calorie intake for an average
woman. Lastly, there is a great deal less access to physical activities than
ever before. According to the Centers
for Disease Control, one third of US secondary-school students fail to get enough
physical activity and over a tenth get none at all. Walking is a simple
activity for prevent the obesity but people prefer to go everywhere by driving
anymore.
In conclusion, while
there are so many external factors affecting obesity, blaming fat people for
their size is not true. The authorized people and institutions should take the necessary
precautions.
In this picture, we can see the physical
effects of obesity. However, obesity can cause effects on a person not only physically
but also mentally and emotionally as well such as low self-esteem, be
ostracized by peers and loneliness. Obesity affects people deeply so not to be an
obese, people should care about themselves. To prevent obesity, they should eat
balanced, they should consume properly fast-food or junk-food and they should
make activities such as walking and swimming.

Melike I don't know if you know or not but the last year there was a program for fat people on TV.Its name was 'Yeni Bir Hayat'. The fat people whose number was about 20 tried to lose weight by taking help from the trainers. The winner lost 60 kg if I was not wrong.(Yes now I've checked it on the internet). It is amazing you know maybe this kind of competitions can be common in Turkey or all over the world. Instead of the programs you will earn money just by luck, this programs can be useful and hope for obese people. They like the life again and they have money for a more beautiful life as fit people. But also I want to ask this ' You are so slim. Why did you choose this topic to write on? :D
